What? An adverb clause is a subordinate clause that modifies a verb, an adjective, or an adverb An adverb clause tells how, when, why, what, OR under what condition

Some Examples Miss K looks as if she has died. (The adverb clause modifies the verb sounds, telling how Miss K looks) Before they left, they took their cell phones from the pockets. (The adverb clause modifies the verb took, telling when they took their phones) Will you focus so that I can finish my lesson? (The adverb clause modifies the verb will focus, answering why you will focus) As long as he studies, he will pass the class. (The adverb clause modifies the verb will pass, answering under what condition he will pass the class)

Subordinating Conjunctions
An adverb clause is introduced by a word that shows the relationship between the adverb clause and the word/words the clause modifies Unlike a relative pronoun, which introduces an adjective clause, a subordinating conjunction DOES NOT serve as a grammatical function in the clause it introduces Who That Whom Which Whose Relative Pronouns
