Yeast experiment from last day

In your science journal write down 4-5 facts from the video

4. Scientists have developed ways to prevent food spoilage
How can we slow or prevent food spoilage?
Does dehydration of foods protect food from spoilage?
Can spices, such as pepper prevent/delay food spoilage?

5. Instructions for Activity
Form groups of 2-3 people
Nominate 1 person from your group to come up a grab supplies, take them back to your desk
You will need: 4 pieces of left over bread that we made last class and 4 pieces of wonderbread, 8 bags, 1 tablespoon, black sharpie, pepper, science journal & pencil (each)
Now go back to your group and wait for further instructions

6. Instructions for Activity Label 4 bags as “Home-made” and 4 bags as “Wonderbread”
Step 1: starting with homemade bread take the 2 fresh pieces of bread and place them into bag
Step 2: label these bags “fresh” and “fresh spiced”
Step 3: take 2 more pieces of bread, toast them and place into bag
Step 4: label these bags “dry” and “dry spiced”
Step 5: add 1 tbls of pepper to each bag marked “dry or fresh spiced”
Step 6: seal all bags
Step 7: tape bags closed with clear packing tape
Step 8: put your names on bag and place in cupboard
Step 9: Repeat all steps with Wonderbread
Step 10: fill in hand out and place in science journal
Step 11: hand in Science Journal to me
