3 Prerequisite Task Force
Goal: Effecting the changes needed to improve student success: (prerequisites are not a panacea) Timing: student demand is high Work with college researchers Change Title 5 §55003: the new language is permissive Other documents to review: “Model District Policy” (BOG, 1993) and “Good Practices for Prerequisites” (ASCCC 1997)

Consultation Council (this morning!) Webinars: April 22, 26 27, 29 A conversation with MALDEF, late April Board of Governors May/July? Curriculum Institute, July 8-10, 2010; Early release of “Prerequisites Revisited” at Curriculum Institute, which has a pre-session focused on prerequisites Fall 2010: Review & revise local policy & procedure; ASCCC content review training; develop & implement local content review; review & approve new CORs for college catalogs

7 Challenges Multiple Measures • Review existing assessment placement process (esp. in light of matriculation funding cuts) Capacity • Basic Skills Sections • Research capacity Disproportionate Impact • Monitor and address as gaps appear • Make use of the resources at the ASCCC Basic Skills website, especially the BSI Handbook Training • Need for system wide support and accountability with regard to faculty training (Identifying Pre-req skills / Content Review)

8 “Prerequisites Revisited”
Revision of “Good Practice for the Implementation of Prerequisites” (adopted 1997, revision called for, 9.06, S98) Drafts reviewed & commented on already by: Exec, SACC, Prerequisites Task Force (with CEO CIO, CSSO, SSCCC reps), CACCRAO (Admissions & Records) and MAP (Matriculation Professional Association) Anticipated Exec approval to release, June 5, 2010 Release to the field: Curriculum Institute, July 8-10, 2010 Release of final draft to area meetings: Oct , 2010 Anticipated adoption at fall plenary: November 13, 2010
