1 Open Crunchit! at the usual place… (bcs.whfreeman.com/crunchit/ips5e)
Look at problem # 2.13 on page bring that data into CrunchIt! and do a scatterplot. Which variable is the explanatory variable? the response? Describe the relationship you see between lean body mass and metabolic rate in a couple of sentences. now edit the plot to use different plotting symbols for the males and females. Now describe the relationship among the three variables. next find the slope and intercept of the regression line; plot the line on the scatterplot. Interpret the meaning of the slope and intercept in the context of this problem.

2 Look at problem #2. 54 on page 149
Look at problem #2.54 on page 149. The main question asked here is “which of IQ and self-concept is better at predicting gpa”. In each case, I want you to do scatterplots with plotted regression lines and to compute correlation coefficients to help in your answers. Interpret the slopes and intercepts in each case - don’t forget to discuss in context! So, which explanatory variable is better at predicting gpa and why?

3 As in the previous lab, copy the graphs into Word and write your responses to the questions asked in paragraph form. Make sure you’re treating the data as “numbers in a specific context”! Save the graphs and the writeup in a file with the name: yourlastnameLAB3.doc where “yourlastname” is replaced by your actual last name. it to me at by Friday at noon. This lab will count as a graded homework and so cannot be turned in later than noon on Friday.
