Accelerated Reader (AR)
Everyday your child will bring home a reading book that is on his/her reading level. Please have them read and reread for fluency and comprehension. They will take a quiz over the book the next day. As they continue to read, their level will increase. Our goal for your child is to become an independent reader and to develop a life-long love of reading. Explain what students will be required to learn/do in reading this year. You might want to talk about Daily 5/Literacy Centers/Workstations if you use them in your classroom. In fact, you might want to duplicate this slide and add your center information to a separate slide.

Grading 1= I have a bike. (unable to ride and need lots of assistance)
When looking at your child’s grades, use this analogy: Riding My Bike 1= I have a bike. (unable to ride and need lots of assistance) 2= I can ride my bike with training wheels. (need help) 3= I can ride my bike down the street.( can ride but still fall off) 4= I can ride trails and race on my bike. ( ride without falling off at all) Our goal is to reach a 4 by the end of the year. Use this slide to explain grading procedures, progress report and report card information.
