1. What is the difference between simplifying an expression and solving an expression? (3x+5)-4x x-7= x/2 +4 = Write the following expressions in algebraic form: 4 more than f 6 times m less than y.

Rational Exponents And Roots

Basic Exponent and Root rules
When you are multiply exponents that have the same base you should add the exponents. Ex. x7∙x3= x ∙22= =32 When dividing exponential expressions with like bases you subtract the exponents. Exponent on the top of the fraction subtracted by the one on the bottom Ex. x7 x2 = x5

Basic Exponent and Root rules
Raising a power to a power- when raising an exponential expression to a power you should multiply the exponents. Ex. (x4)3= x12 (35)2= 310 (xm)n= xmn Negative exponents- a negative exponent means you flip to its reciprocal Ex. x-4 = 1/x4 3-2=1/32=1/9

Rational Exponents and Roots
A rational number is a number that can be written as a ratio (fraction) A rational exponent is a an exponent that is a fraction. A rational exponent is another way of writing a radical √ (also known as a square root sign) The denominator of the fraction indicates the root. *Radicals and exponents are inverse operations
