Closely studying a text, looking at how the author pieced it together, and understanding the central idea.

How can readers accomplish text-based analysis?
Readers can break down parts of a text to understand its details and central idea. Readers read multiple times, looking for claims, themes, tone, vocabulary, and sentence structure. Readers think deeply to understand what the text is stating and the author’s message based on the evidence.

What are inferences? Inferences are not directly stated in the text.
Readers have to make guesses based on clues in the evidence in the text.
