(Left) β-glucan-containing particles are recognised by Dectin-1, inducing formation of the phagocytic synapse. CD45 and CD148 phosphatases are excluded from the point of contact allowing initiation of Dectin-1 signalling. (Right) Soluble β-glucans bind to Dectin-1 and induce receptor clustering; however, CD45 and CD148 are not excluded and therefore Dectin-1 signalling is inhibited.
