Paging System Operation Overview
Pagers vs Handhelds Pager Specifically designed to receive and decode two tones Monitors just the channel used for paging Two channel pages check paging channel many times per second. 2/22/2013 Paging System Operation Overview Revision - 23

Paging System Operation Overview
Pagers vs Handhelds Handheld Designed to receive and decode many different tone schemes. Monitors many channels when on scan If paging channel is priority channel may check it only once every 3-5 seconds. The first paging tone is only 1 second long. 2/22/2013 Paging System Operation Overview Revision - 24

If Handheld is Used as a Pager?
To Increase Chance of Page Being Captured DO NOT USE SCAN! Only way to ensure that the complete tones are captured is to stay on the paging channel. Dual Watch (If radio has this feature). Only two channels scanned, increases chance page will be captured. If a Handheld is used it must meet the radio system specifications so it can decode the tone patterns used. 2/22/2013 Paging System Operation Overview Revision - 25
