The subjunctive verb form isn’t common in everyday British speech. The governors propose that class 5 learn maths all day. The Queen demands that all children be taught to curtsey. Mrs Smith requires that James Brown go to her office now. Might I suggest that your son wait outside until we have finished our chat?

Correct spelling Correct spelling is required for the award of the mark for the majority of questions in Paper 2, especially in the following cases: Verb forms – the whole word must be correctly spelt for the award of the mark Contractions – the full contraction must be correctly spelt and the apostrophe correctly placed for the award of the mark Prefixes and suffixes – the whole word (i.e. the root and the prefix and / or suffix) must be correctly spelt for the award of the mark Plurals – the whole word must be correctly spelt in responses to questions assessing plurals for the award of the mark.

Maths Children will sit three papers in maths:
Paper 1: arithmetic, 30 minutes (40marks) Papers 2 and 3: reasoning, 40 minutes per paper (35marks per paper) Paper 1 will consist of fixed response questions, where children have to give the correct answer to calculations, including fractions, decimals and percentages. Papers 2 and 3 will involve a number of question types, including: Multiple choice True or false Constrained questions, e.g. giving the answer to a calculation, drawing a shape or completing a table or chart Less constrained questions, where children will have to explain their approach for solving a problem

Maths Spelling of mathematical words is not being tested. As long as you can tell what they are trying to say. Eg, Write this number in words- 40? Acceptable answers: forty, fourty and forte All children sitting their tests in May will be expected to understand the comma as a way to separate numbers higher than a thousand Eg, 1,234

Times tables Homework They will need to learn multiplication and division facts and the focus is on speed! The current expectation is that all children should know their times tables up to 12 x 12 by the end of Y4. They will have a times tables test every Friday.
