2 At Proposal stage Please let me know if you have any suggestions that could help us make our results widely known. Our ideas for getting our research into the public eye are: 6 monthly press releases Workshops for interested parties at 6, 18 and 30 months into the project End of project conferences aimed at nurses, academics, healthcare policy makers and industry Regular newsletters for participants and partners of the project to update them on progress. Work Package 2 Challenging environmental Barriers to continence

6 Meeting NDA OPRG Held meeting with members of NDA Older People’s Reference group – March 2009 Presented work to date – possible research tools for use by those involved in research.

7 Research Tools Possible research tools included
Diary to record times when using toilets away from home and to record ‘state’ of public toilets Mapping to identify where in areas toilets were located. Tools rejected by potential users as being impractical

8 Research participants
Original proposal aimed at recruiting older users to project (aged 50+) OPRG suggested extending age range to include transgenerational need for public toilet facilities. Developed ‘lifecourse’ methodology based around epidemiological studies.

9 ‘Life course’ methodology
Project now aimed to include 101 people aged (0 = new born child) Understand toileting needs for different ages Map design needs Create personas to represent group needs

10 NDA OPRG next encounter
Currently completing 2nd phase of research with toilet providers Return to consultation with OPRG (May 2011) Identify further areas for inclusion (case studies ie Lewisham)
