Learning Target Opening-
If the boys symbolized stereotypical people in society, who would they be? Jack Ralph Simon Piggy Roger Learning Target- I will show my understanding of symbolism by identifying symbols in the extended text and explain their use.

Jack the Dictator When he appears at the assembly, he shows the desire of power and authority as he claims with simple arrogance “I ought to be chief, because I’m chapter chorister and head boy. I can sing C sharp” (Golding 23). After he successfully controls the island, he is the undisputed lord of the feast, “where he sits upon his log- throne, painted and garlanded, sat there like an idol. There were piles of meat on green leaves near him, and fruit, and coco-nut shells full of drink” (Golding 146).

Jack the Dictator Jack symbolizes the role of a dictator in the microcosm of the island. First, he uses fear and basic needs of food and protection to gain control of the island. When he has control, he excerpts his power. He sends his minions to do his bidding….
