Zora Neale Hurston Born in Alabama in 1891
The daughter of two former slaves Parents died when she was very young so she moved around a lot and lived with various family members Earned an Associate Degree from Howard University Moved to Harlem, NY

Zora Neale Hurston Became one of the most well-known and respected writers of the Harlem Renaissance Befriended Countee Cullen and Langston Hughes among others Was awarded a scholarship to Barnard College where she studied anthropology “How it Feels to be Colored Me” was written in 1928, the height of the Jazz Age – 30 minutes
