Financial Aid is … Funding to help students pay for their education-related expenses e.g. tuition, fees, room and board, books, supplies, transportation, etc… Basic criteria to receive federal financial aid is: Be a citizen or eligible non-citizen Have a valid Social Security number Enrolled at least half time in program leading to a certificate or degree Maintain a satisfactory academic progress (defined by your school) Register with the Selective Service (males only) studentaid.ed.gov

Pull together the information that may be needed for all scholarship applications. Academic Information (GPA, SAT/ACT scores) Recommendation letters College choices Personal essay Community/volunteer work Create a list of eligible scholarships Sort the scholarship list by deadline Start applying - Be sure to read the directions, qualifications, and fine print carefully. Watch out for scams!

NM Legislative Lottery Scholarship
Eligibility: Student must be a resident of New Mexico Must have graduated from a NM public high school, accredited private high school or obtained a high school equivalency credential in New Mexico. Must be enrolled full-time (15 credit hours) in the first regular semester at an eligible four-year New Mexico public university. Must be enrolled full-time (12 credit hours) in the first regular semester at an eligible two- year New Mexico community college. Must enroll at a public post secondary educational institution in NM within 16mos. Must maintain at least a cumulative GPA of 2.5 Awards: A Percentage of Tuition More info :

Federal Grants - studentaid.ed.gov Pell Grant FSEOG TEACH Grant State Grants - hed.state.nm.us/grants.aspx NM Student Incentive Grant is for resident undergraduate students with substantial financial need who are attending public and private non-profit institutions in New Mexico. Award $200 - $2,500 per year Gift aid and do not need to be paid back, if the requirements are met. Pell and FSEOG are need based TEACH Grant to students who will teach in a low income public/private elementary/secondary school

FSA-ID An FSA ID gives you access to Federal Student Aid’s online systems and can serve as your legal signature. Create FSA ID for student & parent prior to attending the FAFSA Workshop

Must be completed for federal aid annually Apply after October 1st Submit on line Use 2016 tax income Student will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) College will send award letter(s) with type and amount of aid

Work Study Part time, usually 20 hours/week
