2 NRA was established in 1935. The model was taken from PIARC's organisation and ways of working The Association aims at developing the road and road transport sectors in Northern Europe through professional cooperation between experts from all Nordic Countries: Denmark, Finland, Faroe Islands, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. The Association has more than 800 participants in the work of its Technical Committees, Theme Groups and 6 National Boards The Association has all together some 300 Member Organisations July 2008

3 NRA is a platform for the exchange of knowledge and experiences.
Activities: NRA is a platform for the exchange of knowledge and experiences. NRA aspires to spread information also beyond its Committees - to the whole Nordic road sector. One field of activity is the standardisation of rules in the Nordic countries. July 2008

4 Every Member Country has its own NRA National Section.
Activities: Every Member Country has its own NRA National Section. The Chair of the Association rotates in periods of four years among the Member Countries, the Faroe Islands excluded. The period is chaired by NRA Iceland. The Technical Committees work on both a national and a Nordic level. The work of the Association and its TC's comprises of meetings, seminars and the Via Nordica congresses, held every four years. 25 open seminars in 2007 July 2008

6 The Nordic Road Congress Via Nordica is arranged every four years.
The next Via Nordica Congress takes place in Reykjavik, Iceland in June 2012. > July 2008

7 International Cooperation
NRA has an Agreement of Understanding with the World Road Association (PIARC) and the Baltic Road Association (BRA). NRA participates actively in the work of PIARC's National Committees. NRA also represents all Nordic countries in the PIARC's Executive Committee. NRA appoints a staff member to the PIARC's General Secretariat. 2 - 3 joint seminars with BRA per year July 2008
