Formative Performance Task 1 SUBSTITUTION Topic: How are physical and political boundaries of civilizations, empires, and kingdoms similar and different? Description of Formative Performance Task: You will use physical and political maps found on timemaps.com and Google Earth to discuss physical and political boundaries of the Sumerians, Assyrians, Egyptians, and Babylonians. Featured Source: Google Earth website TimeMaps website Featured Tech Tools: Laptops or Desktop Computers Steps: Using dictionary.com, define what a boundary is. After that, answer the following question: What are the differences between physical and political boundaries? Using Google Earth website, list the physical geography of the fertile crescent, Middle East and North Africa. Using TimeMaps website, look at a maps of the Sumerian, Assyrian, Babylonian, and Egypt empires. Describe each empire’s political boundaries. List the differences and similarities of the physical and political boundaries of the different empires. Exit ticket – Where in the fertile crescent would you build your capital city? Teacher Name: George Book Jr School: CPAS E Address: Special Considerations: You will need to review how to use Dictionary- dictionary.com, TimeMaps- and Google Earth- prior to the lesson. You will have to determine where students will record their information. Assessment: Teacher will examine students’ Exit tickets as a formative assessment

Topic: How are physical and political boundaries of civilizations, empires, and kingdoms similar and different? Description of Formative Performance Task: You will break into groups and use Google slides to present information on the physical and political boundaries and the city structure and army of your chosen empire. Featured Source: TimeMaps website Featured Tech Tools: Google Slides Laptop or desktop computers Steps: 1. Go to the corner of the room that has the empire you want to make a presentation on. 2. Now choose which aspect of the empire you want to find information on for your part of the Google slide presentation: physical boundary, political boundary, city structure, defense/army. You can use up to 4 slides. 3. You will need to come up with two multiple choice questions on your part. 4. Go to a computer and log in. Go to Chrome and type the link provided by your teacher to get to the Google Slide. Only type or put info on the numbered slides that have been assigned to you. 5. Make sure to site the sources that you get your information from. Teacher Name: George Book Jr. School: CPAS E Address: Special Considerations: You will have to make signs with the names of the different empires that you want students to research. You must have a Google account. Log into Google slides. Click on blank presentation. Hit the top right share button to create link for students. Ex. You will need to make one for each class. An alternate to this would be for students to use PowerPoint to create their slides. Assessment: Formative assessment determined by the teacher

Summative Performance Task 3 MODIFICATION Topic: How are physical and political boundaries of civilizations, empires, and kingdoms similar and different Description of Summative Performance Task: You will review other members of your group’s work and suggest changes. Then you will combine each part to make a full presentation on your chosen empire. Each group will present their Google Slides presentation trying to convince their classmates to live in their empire. This will be videoed. Featured Source: Google Slides Featured Tech Tools: Laptop or desktop computer iPad or other video camera Steps : 1. Each group will work together to improve all parts of the Google Slide presentation on their particular empire. 2. Once all groups have completed this, each group will take turns and present the Google Slide presentation trying to convince their classmates to live in their empire. 3. After all groups have presented their information, each of you will vote on which empire you like the best using Pickers. Teacher Name: George Book Jr. School: CPAS E Address: Special Considerations: You must have a Plickers account and will need to set up the multiple choice question prior to students voting. You will also need to print out Plickers cards for students to use. You can only vote this way if you have 4 groups since there are only 4 choices.

Summative Performance Task 4 REDEFINITION Topic: How are physical and political boundaries of civilizations, empires, and kingdoms similar and different Description of Summative Performance Task: You will watch the videos from a different class keeping in mind that you will be providing feedback by using the Clips app. You will respond and critique the other class’s videos. Featured Source: Clips app Featured Tech Tools: Laptop or Desktop computers iPad Steps: 1. Watch the videos from a different class that is provided by your teacher. 2. In your group, use the Clips app to give feed back to the group. 3. After your video has been critiqued, you will be able to view your group’s Clips video. Teacher Name: George Book Jr. School: CPAS E Address: Special Considerations: Teacher will need to have a system to store the Task 3 videos for students to view. If you have taken BB 201, you may have students post to Blackboard. Clips app and iPads are needed. You may need to do this in stations is you have limited equipment. A checklist or rubric of expectations for the video critique will be necessary to keep students accountable of what is expected in their Clips video critique. Assessment: Teacher will need to create a rubric to score this.
