How did we get from here?

Note that the lorry was stationary on the hard-shoulder
At around 18:30 on Thursday 14 March 2013, a car crashed into the back of a lorry on Settler only Road 5 in Salfeet Governorate, occupied Palestine. Note that the lorry was stationary on the hard-shoulder The opinion of a UK traffic officer is that the collision speed would have been mph
5
The driver’s initial testimony
He’d suffered a blow-out and had stopped to change the wheel Hearsay is that, he had actually left the scene for help and returned to find the car buried under the back of his lorry Subsequently, he changed his story to fit Adva Biton’s narrative and that of the other 61 illegal settler “witnesses” who emerged from the dark
6
It was dark 14 March 2013 Jerusalem Twi: 5:27am Sunrise: 5:51am Sunset: 5:46pm Twi: 6:10pm Day length: 11h 55m See: Note, the further South you travel the shorter the period between sunset and darkness
7
Location Site of accident Hares Village
8
Scene of the accident
9
Identification How can anyone, driving at 50-70mph, in the dark, spot someone 30 meters above them throwing stones? How can anyone, driving at 50-70mph, in the dark, positively identify someone 30 meters above their line of sight?
10
Witnesses Community tea house located on the track to the Olive Grove from where the stones were allegedly thrown Anyone heading for the olive grove must pass this tea house
11
The men drinking tea, playing backgammon here, attested that they heard the sound of the crash, but that no one had passed them to enter the olive grove, thus no one was there to even throw stones
12
Palestinians are forbidden from testifying at all Israel Military Courts by the IDF
Thus the presiding “judiciary” will never hear any real evidence supporting the Hares Boys’ innocence
13
Other issues
14
Palestinians have these things wandering about
Inflicted upon them by illegal settlers Which means that for personal safety reasons everyone is indoors by dusk
15
Most settlers only carry basic Bituach Chova (Compulsory Insurance)
This is simple cover against death or injury for the occupants of the insured car (See information pack for details) No one knows what insurance, if any, Adva Biton carried at the time
16
(see information pack for details)
If the boys are found guilty this simple accident becomes an act of terrorism If the “accident” is deemed “an act of terrorism”, then the Hostile Actions (Pensions) Law, 1970 (“VHAPL”) applies (see information pack for details) This would mean Adva Biton and her passengers would be entitled to substantial compensation
17
In the meantime the boys have been incarcerated since March 2013
With no real evidence against them apart from signed confessions – in Hebrew – extracted under brutal interrogation
18
Israel signed up to the Geneva convention in 2007
Finally There are currently 25 prisons and military detention centres in which Palestinian prisoners are held, including four interrogation centres, four military detention centres and 17 prisons, according to Al Ray. Of these facilities, 20 are located outside the West Bank and Gaza, meaning that prisoners are illegally transferred outside of occupied territory. Article 47 of the Fourth Geneva Convention explicitly states that “protected persons accused of offences shall be detained in the occupied country, and if convicted they shall serve their sentences therein.” Israel signed up to the Geneva convention in 2007
