July 2001 Motion for Persistence Factor related changes to the e D1.0 Draft Mathilde Benveniste AT&T Labs, Research Mathilde Benveniste, AT&T Labs - Research

2 July 2001 Move to adopt into the e/D1 draft the following changes: Clause At the editor’s discretion, modify figure to add a one bit sub-field identified as Persistence Factor, and add the text below to describe that field: An AP that specifies traffic-category specific Contention Window Persistence Factors will set this field equal to 1, otherwise this field will be set to 0. An ESTA the uses the traffic-category specific Contention Window Persistence Factors sent by the AP will set this field to 1. Mathilde Benveniste, AT&T Labs - Research

3 In Clause 7.3.2.14, add the indicated text:
July 2001 In Clause , add the indicated text: If the Persistence Factor Extended Capability Element subfield is set to 1 by the AP, the CWPFactor[i] (Contention Window Persistence Factor) field is one octet in length and indicates the factor in units of 1/16 ths, used in computing new CW[i] values on every unsuccessful attempt to transmit an MPDU or an MMPDU of traffic category i according to the procedure defined in Mathilde Benveniste, AT&T Labs - Research

4 July 2001 Clause 9.2.4 If the Persistence Factor Extended Capability Element subfield is set to 0 by an ESTA, it shall compute a new CW[i] value in the same way as an STA. If this field is set to 0 by an AP, and that AP transmits the QoS parameter set element as part of the beacon, the CFPFactor values will be set to 2. If the Persistence Factor Extended Capability Element subfield is set to 1 by the AP it shall periodically transmit CFPFactor values as part of the QoS parameter set beacon element. If an ESTA sets this bit to 1, to compute the new CW[i] value, denoted CWnew[i], from the old CW[i] value, denoted CWold[i], in the event of a collision, an EDCF station shall choose a value of CWnew[i] which meets the following criterion: Mathilde Benveniste, AT&T Labs - Research
