Civil War: A War that was against the Confederate states and the Union. The Union won, thus creating the United States of America.
Abraham Lincoln: He was the 16th President of the United States. His term began in 1861 and ended when he was assassinated in He a primary leader the Civil War.
Emancipation Proclamation: This proclamation was issued on January 1, 1863 by President Abraham Lincoln. It declared "that all persons held as slaves" within the rebellious (confederate states) states "are, and henceforward shall be free.“
Frederick Douglass: A slave who bought is own freedom and became well known for his speeches, writings and actions against slavery (abolitionist).
