6 What do all four of these example have in common?
These are really plot summaries of a whole story in just a few words, and these examples have, as all stories do, Three relatively predictable parts of a story: a problem or desire, a character’s attempt to deal with the problem or desire, and a resolution to the problem.

7 Active Engagement: Turn and Talk
In just a few words, summarize a story you’ve read or a movie or TV show they’ve seen lately, like the previous sample. Remember to illustrate the problem, the character’s attempt to deal with the problem or desire, and the resolution.

8 Create your own: Write your own three sentence summary of a story (you’re the author). Draw pictures that represent all three elements of your story on construction paper. Report Out, share

9 Session 2 Continued: Modeling
Let’s read “Th“Flu” together. Bracket the three parts of “Flu” as we discuss. Let’s come up with a brief summary of each part. Problem or desire: Character’s attempt to deal with the problem or desire: Resolution to the problem: 2. 3.
