Wii Gloves By: Sarah Bass ITMG November 17,2008

2 What are Wii Gloves They are placed on your thumb, forefinger, and middle finger. There are infrared sensors on each of those fingers with a hybrid mouse.

3 What do they connect with?
They are connected to a Wiimote that is located on top of a monitor. The Wiimote is an extension to the Wii remote with extra technology, a camera, added into the infrared portion that correlates with the gloves.

4 Who invented this technology?
Cynergy Labs created this invention based off of their knowledge of previous creations and named the project “Project Maestro.” This program is based off of Microsoft WPF (Windows Presentation Foundation) and the used of custom hardware made by Cynergy Labs.

5 How does it work? Once you put on the gloves you can coordinate the movement of your fingers and move around objects on the monitor. You can use the two-finger pinch, or a three finger grab to gain more control.

6 The gloves are used like a mouse we have today, but can be used from a further distance.
CyberLab recreated the technology used for Microsoft surface to make these gloves that produces an infrared light.

7 Why Hasn’t this been invented yet?
Similar ideas: SMART NAV Market for the Wii Gloves

8 What’s the Program Run On?
Microsoft Silverlight

9 Whats the Difference between Wii Gloves and Wii remotes??
The Gloves allow for better control on the monitor. Wii remotes are more geared for gaming needs, while the gloves can be used in a broader amount of programs.

10 Where have you seen these before?
These gloves were used futuristically in the movie Minority Report by Steven Spielberg featuring Tom Cruise. movie

11 How long did it take to create these gloves?
From the beginning stages to the completion of Wii gloves it took approximately 8 days to configure this invention. 8 DAYS!!!!!

12 Is this a reality right now?
The gloves are not mainstream as of today, however there is a product that is similar to the Wii Gloves,Microsoft Surface, which is being released to some companies today because it is more practical.

13 Who would use this technology?
This technology could be used for: Architects Heads of construction sites Designers CEOs/any members of a company Teachers

14 Usefulness vs. Non-usefulness
In The Real World… Useful Not Useful Architects Games Drafters Surfing the Web DVD Players Typing Anything for long periods Pinching/Grabbing only certain items

15 Practicality There will be a learning curve
I think given the time though this could be remotely practical for most people. However, I think it could be really frustrating and time consuming if these gloves are used for long periods of time.

16 Why this is popular? Gesture interaction is looking to be one of the next big technologies.

17 Relation to Our ITMG Class
“This interface could be used in such business software applications” (Wolf): Facilities management Scheduling solutions Data mining OLAP interactions
