- Must be done every 5 years
- Must include a check of:
-State criminal and sex offender registry of all states a staff member has lived in the past years
-State child abuse and neglect registry of all states a staff member has lived in the past 5 years
- The National Crime Information Center (run by FBI)
- FBI finger print check
- The National Sex Offender Registry (operated by DOJ)

Consumer Education
States must provide via a website:
Comprehensive consumer education regarding their child care options, the quality of providers and availability of child care, etc.
Results of monitoring and inspection reports
Annual reports on the number of deaths, serious injuries and instances of child abuse
A description of licensing and monitoring requirements and process for background checks (including offenses that prevent individuals from becoming providers)
