Decision-Making: The process of making a choice or finding a solution.

What influences the choices we make?
Here are a few that I can think of. Read through the list, then add to it as a table. Write down as many as you can think of in the extra space in your packet. Family Friends Emotions Habits Esteem Values **Values have the greatest influence on the choices we make, if we go against a value we feel guilty

Read the scenario in your packet
As you read over the DECIDE acronym, explain what part of the scenario in your packet refers to that step. For example..... Define the situation: Michelle is trying to encourage Kendra to ditch school with her

D: Define the Problem What is it that you are being faced with?

E: Explore your options What are my options?

C: Consider the Consequences
What can be potential positive and negative consequences?

I: Identify your Values
What is most important to you? What things are going to influence your choice?

D: Decide and Act Make a choice and follow through!

E: Evaluate the Results
After you’ve followed through with your choice, determine if it was the right one! What, if anything, could you have done differently? How can you learn from your choice?

Long-term Effects What are some choices that you are being faced with that can affect your future? (Answer in notes) Some decisions can affect your future! How hard do you work in school? Do you choose good friends? What type of career do you want? Do you abuse drugs? Discuss as a table other decisions that can affect your future. How often do you think of long-term consequences to your actions? Discuss as a table.

NOW…. After you have talked about some of the decisions you are facing right now, and some of the possible long term effects of your choices, go up to the board and write what you discussed. You will need to write down at least to decisions you are being faced with, and the possible consequences of your actions. It should look something like this Decision Possible Consequences Should I be dishonest with my parents about… I could get in trouble, lose my parent’s trust, etc.
