Annual Convention Positive Behaviour 2018
2
PURPOSE OF SLIDE: To show the marketing image and slogan which will be used to reinforce the Positive Behaviour Campaign
3
The spotlight is on YFC members!
All YFC members must take responsibility for their behaviour With so many YFC’s together in one place, it does influence the public’s opinion of Young Farmers Don't give the press opportunities for negative headlines There is a risk of losing goodwill from hotels/ local business / event locations PURPOSE OF SLIDE: To set the scene and show the amount of work that goes in to the event. To communicate the positive value of the conference and the potential risk of continued reputational damage. We must continue to improve the reputation of the event and steer the overall impression towards the positive work of Young farmers coming together to showcase the best of what is achieved throughout the year. It is important for every YFC to understand that positive behaviour is the expectation. If everyone attending conference works to the agreed values then we can ensure that the public gets the best impression of Young Farmers as a national organisation. The conference needs to be the model which celebrates all of the organisation giving their best. A small minority of people at previous conventions have caused incidents or behaved inappropriately, leading to negative press. There will be some press attending conference who are looking for the next drama to happen, so don’t give them the opportunity. The conference has been built on a good business model which is important to protect. It has historic positive capital and a is upheld by longstanding members as a important part of the YFC experience. There is a risk to the future running of the event if the momentum continues towards the types of behaviour / incidents that have happened over recent years. Although a major income for a town, the reward is less if it comes with negative attachments.

Areas for serious attention and co-operation
The journey to Annual Convention - Coach/Train/Car Taste and decency You will be on camera! The consequences for anyone behaving inappropriately PURPOSE OF SLIDE: To discuss some of the potential hazards which need highlighting and areas which need improving A culture of transportation and heavy drinking needs to be discouraged. Coach operators will have regulations which need to be followed and not abused. There are several recent incidents where bus operators have refused to do the return journey from convention because of behaviour on the outward journey. The responsibility for the protection of this relationship and contractual agreement, lies with ALL of the passengers. It is vitally important that in public spaces such as Train Carriages, Train stations and Motorway Service stations, everyone's behaviour is acceptable and not disruptive. Club shirts, group behaviour, use of inappropriate language in public settings, all have a impact on how Young Farmers are viewed. We need to uphold an agreed level of decency rather than yob behaviour. Awareness of being ‘On display’- Local CCTV, security and police. Cameras all around with the potential of instant complaints and engagement with Social media. We are sharing the town and need to have consideration to other people, families, residents etc. We need to be seen to be looking after property, being good guests and customers to local business. The consequences for illegal or inappropriate behaviour include removal of wristband for the duration of the event, plus a formal process at National, County or Club level which may result in a ban of up to 12 months.

Encouraging a positive approach
Help create a consistent positive impression of your YFC throughout the weekend Stand out for the RIGHT reasons Be proud to be YFC and represent your club Convention is a great event- everyone needs to play their part in protecting the reputation and organisation for the future PURPOSE OF SLIDE: To highlight that we are encouraging the positive and discouraging the minority who behave inappropriately. We know that the majority of YFC members at conference do behave themselves. We need to work together to ensure everyone has an enjoyable time. Agree as a group that the aim for the weekend is to give a good impression to everyone you encounter. Everyone has a responsibility to protect the reputation of YFC’s. Great work is achieved throughout a YFC year, contributing to a successful club. It is important for that reputation not to be damaged over the weekend. Everyone needs to represent YFC and the pride which the organisation is built upon. Each club coming has a part to play in Convention being a success. The good works which are carried out throughout the organisation, require a lot of time and relationship investment throughout the year.
