3. What is Science?
Science comes from the Latin word “scientia”, which means TO KNOW
Science is a methodical, ORGANIZED WAY TO LEARN
Goal of Science is to BETTER UNDERSTAND the world around us.

4. Science is….
A process that involves OBSERVATION, INQUIRY, and investigation to gain knowledge about things in the world around us.
Observation uses our 5 SENSES
INQUIRY – to ask QUESTIONS and look for ANSWERS

5. 3 Main Branches of Science
1)LIFE SCIENCE:
The science that deals with LIVING THINGS

6. 2) EARTH SCIENCE
The science that studies both things ON EARTH AND IN SPACE.

7. 3) PHYSICAL SCIENCE
The science that studies MATTER AND ENERGY.

8. Science helps explain nature….
Scientific ideas, however, are definitely not written in stone…they are constantly CHANGING.
