1 “He Started It” + What are three stages that lead up to a fight you have witnessed. Usually more than one thing occurs to start a fight can you tell me how this leads that which leads to this which leads to hands? =

2 Looking at the times KWL chart of the Civil War
Look at two of the major factors that led up to them Let our brains pop with slavery 12 minutes a slave

3 KWL of Civil War (pg. 22)

4 Taking it way back In colonial Georgia life was driven by agriculture
Primarily the cash crop of the south was tobacco Eventually the cotton gin was developed by Eli Whitney which changed things Now Cotton became king You need two things to sustain this new crop, Land and you need labor

5 Slavery Slave labor wasn’t allowed in Georgia until the 1750’s (end of the trustee period) The founding fathers didn’t want slaves at all Slaves made financial sense as long as you could keep them under control The South was too dependent on agriculture to get rid of slaves but the North didn’t have the climate to support it as much

6 Separating States There was a growing population of Abolitionists in the North who hated slavery Some abolitionists were in the south as well but not as vocal As we as a nation moved west the south wanted to bring slaves and the north wanted the institution to only be in the south Slavery became a very complex issue

7 States Rights The Articles of confederation gave states too much power
When the constitution was ratified some states didn’t like the power of the federal government The southern states really hated how the northern states wanted an end to slavery This led some states in the south to want to break off from the Union

8 12 Minutes a Slave This is simply a simulation please don’t ruin it!
For the next twelve minutes you will be a slave I want you to write (In broken English) a journal entry of a day in the life of an undercover educated slave I will be walking around the room if I catch you writing then I will snatch you up and put you in the box!
