3. What IS College Credit Plus (CCP)?
New program started in Fall 2015
Replacement for PSEO
An opportunity to earn high school AND college credit simultaneously
An opportunity for qualified high school students to take college classes before graduation free of charge at public institutions (and some participating private institutions)
Ohio’s new College Credit Plus can help students earn college and high school credits at the same time by taking college courses from community colleges or universities. The purpose of this program is to promote rigorous academic pursuits and to provide a wide variety of options to college-ready students. Taking a college course from a public college or university College Credit Plus is free. That means no cost for tuition, books or fees. If you choose to attend a private college or university, you may have limited costs.

4. What College Credit Plus (CCP) is NOT?
For remedial or religious courses
For students who struggle academically
A simple replacement for high school required courses

5. Who CAN Participate in CCP?
Students in 7th through 12th grades
Students who submit intent to participate by the April 1st deadline (form available tonight and at your individual school)
Students who meet the admission requirements of the individual institution - “College Ready Standards”

8. Who SHOULD Participate in CCP?
Students who are highly motivated and mature
Students who have interests or abilities beyond what is available at the high school level
Students who are not over-extended with other activities
Students who have transportation, if the CC+ course in on the college campus

9. CCP Course Options: Courses on college campus Online college courses
Courses on the high school campus, taught by staff who meet the academic credentialing requirements of the institution

10. Credit Hours Available:
Up to the equivalent of 30 college credit hours per academic year
No more than 120 college credit hours while in the program (includes grades 7 – 12)

12. Carnegie Units for College Courses:
1 Carnegie Unit = 1 yearlong HS course
Carnegie Units for College Courses:
3, 4 or 5 credit courses = 1 Carnegie Unit
2 credit courses = 2/3 of a Carnegie Unit
1 credit courses = 1/3 of a Carnegie Unit

13. Students may not exceed full-time status during any academic year
Number of HS ONLY credits
Multiply that by 3
Subtract result from 30
The result is the total number of college credits the student may take that academic year

14. Example:
Step 1: Student is taking 4 HS Courses
Step 2: 4 X 3 = 12
Step 3: 30 – 12 = 18
Step 4: 18 credits available for CCP
that academic year

20. Transcripts and Weighting
Courses will appear on high school and college transcripts
Courses will count toward high school and college GPA
All advanced-standing programs will be weighted the same within subject area

21. Weighted Grades
College courses must be weighted equally to the greatest weight of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate or honors classes, in the same subject area.

22. OHSAA Eligibility:
Student must pass the equivalent of 5 Carnegie units per grading period
If in CCP program – student must provide academic report (with grades) to the athletic office from the institution at the end of the HS grading period
NCAA Eligibility:
Students considering College Division I or II athletic participation should communicate with their guidance counselor
Students should visit the NCAA Clearinghouse online for additional details

23. Graduation Requirements
CCP participation does not replace the requirements to earn a high school diploma
Multiple college courses may be needed to meet the standards of a core academic course

24. Testing Requirements
End of Course exams must be taken for English and Math courses taken in CCP
Science and Social Studies CC+ courses are not required-an alternative for those graduation points is as follows

Take Courses not offered at the high school to enrich or extend your education

30. Risks of CCP Participation:
Grades may affect your GPA, class rank, and scholarship opportunities
Desired college courses may not work around your high school schedule
High School and College Calendars rarely match
College credits may not transfer to private or out of state institutions

31. Risks of CCP Participation:
Extracurricular activities may be affected
Social discomfort with older students
College classes do not often cancel or delay due to weather conditions
Pressure of two schedules to follow
Loss of High School Social Experiences

32. Risks of CCP Participation:
Follows college grading policies
District may require family to reimburse course cost for failing grade or course withdraw
Future federal financial aid may be affected
Transportation is not provided

33. Next Steps: Submit Intent Form no later than April 1st, 2017
Communicate with intended institution – may need to complete readiness assessments
Apply to intended institution– must meet their admissions requirements
