4 PACT

5 What the research says Partnerships decline across the grades (fewer in middle school). Affluent communities tend to have more positive family involvement. Schools in more economically depressed communities make more negative contact. Single parents, parents who work outside the home, parents who live far, and fathers are less involved.

6 What the research says Just about all families care about their children, want them to succeed, and are eager to obtain better information. Just about all teachers and administrators want families to be involved, but do not know how to efficiently and effectively get this done. Just about all students are willing to help with communication between parents and the school but lack the guidance.

7 Why Cpact? Because of Impact!
Traditional Framework Joyce Epstein’s Theory

8 Why CPACT? Joyce Epstien’s research school, family, and community partnership. Schools, families, and communities each have a stake and influence in the education of a child. One of the goals of partnership research has been to identify the actions that schools, families and communities engage in when they focus on student learning. Six general types of involvement have been identified: parenting, communicating, volunteering, learning at home, decision making, and collaborating. We will have a 7th for FPS : Transitioning.

Communicating – How can we increase two way communication about programs and student progress? Volunteering – How do we mobilize parents and others to share their time and talents to support the school, teachers, and students? Learning at Home – How can we inform parents about the academic requirements at school and how they can help at home? Decision Making – How can we offer families more opportunities to have a voice in decisions that impact their student and other students in the school? Collaborating with the Community – How can we encourage schools, families, community groups, organizations, agencies, and individuals working together?
