Maslow’s Hierarchy By: Mackie, Anna, and Shanese

2 Maslow’s Theory Maslow argued that each person has a hierarchy of needs that must be satisfied. The needs go in order of a pyramid Some of the needs are what they need to have to survive and some needs are just for self-fulfillment proposed by Abraham Maslow

3 Abraham Maslow born on April 1, 1908, Brooklyn, New York
He died in Menlo Park, California, on June 8, 1970. He is an American Psychologist

4 Physiological Things such as breathing, food, water, sleep

5 Safety needs All children need to feel somewhat protected and safe

6 Belongingness and love needs
Intimate relationships and friendships

7 Esteem needs Prestige and feeling of accomplishment
Feeling of being accepted, valued by others

8 Cognitive needs Knowledge meaning and self awareness

9 Self-Actualization Achieving one's full potential including creative activities considered as a drive or need present in everyone.

10 How are these theories used in the classroom?
You need to start with physiological needs. You can’t do anything in school if you are tired, or hungry, or have some physical needs that aren’t met. Next is safety. The children need to feel safe in the classroom or they will constantly be worrying about what is going on. Belongingness and love. The children need to be loved and learn how to love to live a happy life and it will also help with their social development

11 How are these theories used in the classroom?
Esteem needs. You need to make the children feel as though they are making a contribution and their input is appreciated Cognitive needs. This is how the children learn through the teaching of the teacher Self-actualization. Make sure the kids know that they need to try to be the best that they can be to satisfy themselves
