The Pythagorean Theorem

Step 1 We start this proof with four copies of triangle. Each has area ab/2.

Step 2 The four triangles were put together to form two squares. The center square has sides (a-b). Summing up its area we get (a-b)2 and 2ab, the area of the four triangles (4·ab/2), Putting this together we get c2 = (a-b)2+2ab = a2-2ab+b2+2ab = a2+b2

Thus…. a2+b2=c2 When simplified the problem is reduced to a2+b2=c2, the Pythagorean Theorem.
