1 Born to be great For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. Galations 5:16

2 War with Amalek Now Amalek came and fought with Israel in Rephidim. And Moses said to Joshua, “Choose us some men and go out, fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in my hand.” So Joshua did as Moses said to him, and fought with Amalek. And Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill. And so it was, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. But Moses’ hands became heavy; so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. And Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. So Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword. Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write this for a memorial in the book and recount it in the hearing of Joshua, that I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.” And Moses built an altar and called its name, The-Lord-Is-My-Banner; for he said, “Because the Lord has sworn: the Lord will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.”

3 Why God didn’t fight with amalek?
This war started after the congregation ate the manna and drank the water from the rock. We have two kinds of war: War with Pharoah => nobody can fight with him, however God fought on our behalf. This is an example of having God free us from Satan’s slavery And Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.” Exodus 14:14

4 War with pharaoh…cont’d
However, having enjoyed the crossing over of the Red Sea, and having received all fulfillments from the Lord: the manna, the quails, and the water from the rock, the people were committed to fight not by their own human power but through the work of God in them. That war has been a symbol of the spiritual warfare between the Kingdom of God and that of the devil, where the conquest will be for the children of God through the cross.

5 Second war.. We have a war that God fights through us Amalek represents the body; the body interrupts the way to your salvation; Who’s amalek…represents the lust of the body…. “Now Jacob cooked a stew; and Esau came in from the field, and he was weary. And Esau said to Jacob, “Please feed me with that same red stew, for I am weary.” Therefore his name was called Edom. But Jacob said, “Sell me your birthright as of this day.” And Esau said, “Look, I am about to die; so what is this birthright to me?” Ge 25:29

6 Satan doesn’t allow you to be free and and he wants us to be slaves;
Satan’s methods Satan doesn’t allow you to be free and and he wants us to be slaves; ….but Amalek (the body) distracts your path to salvation!

7 How to battle this war? 1) To lift up your hands… “And so it was, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed..” Exodus 17:11 2) Be led by God’s Commandment… “So Joshua did as Moses said to him, and fought with Amalek” Exodus 17: 10 3) Ask for intercessions on our behalf.. “And Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side;” Exodus 17:11

8 Power of prayer The result of Prayer:
When Moses held up his hands, Israel prevailed and when he let down his hands, to give them some rest, Amalek prevailed. Therefore, let us hold up our hands with the strength of the cross of Christ and let us everywhere raise pure hands in prayers, “without wrath or a doubting”, in order to be worthy of God’s help. – Origen The result of Prayer: Then, the devil will not only flee away from us but he will be crushed under our feet, as was Pharaoh, when he drowned in the sea and was swallowed by the depths of the abyss.

9 His glory working for the glory of God and heaven!
Holding up the hands to prevail over Amalek saying that holding up the hands is a holding up of all works to God to be neither lowly nor earthly but working for the glory of God and heaven!

10 2. Led by god’s commandment
Joshua…meaning: God is Salvation! God fights with you and in you! “The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. Psalm 18:2 “Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; ‘For Yah, the Lord, is my strength and song; He also has become my salvation.’ Isaiah 12:2

11 3. Intercessions on our behalf
Hur & Aaron represents the intercessions of the saints on our behalf during prayer! “O Holy Virgin, overshadow your servant with your instant help, and keep the waves of evil thoughts away from me, and raise up my ailing soul for prayer and vigil, for it has gone into a deep sleep. For you are a capable, compassionate and helpful mother, the bearer of the fountain of life my king and my God, Jesus Christ, my hope.”

12 Never ending war… Lord has sworn: the Lord will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.” Exodus 17:16 The war of the body never ends, but for victory, we must always raise our hands in prayer! “Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace” Romans 6:12-14
