2 Maryland Association for Environmental and Outdoor Education (MAEOE)
Founded in 1985. The Maryland Association for Environmental and Outdoor Education (MAEOE), a nonprofit educational association, serves thousands of teachers, natural resource managers, nature center staff, and environmental program managers with dynamic training programs, workshops, conferences, awards programs, networking opportunities, publications, and related materials and resources. Through these efforts, MAEOE encourages, educates, supports, and inspires Maryland educators to build a citizenry that understands and is responsibly engaged in advancing sustainability to address human needs and to conserve the Earth's natural resources.

3 MAEOE GREEN SCHOOLS The Maryland Green School Awards Program is a holistic, integrated approach to authentic learning that incorporates local environmental issue investigation and professional development with environmental best management practices and community stewardship. All Maryland schools pre K-12, public and private are eligible.  Applications are non-competitive and are accepted each year in the spring. Newly recognized Maryland Green Schools and Maryland Green Centers are announced in late spring.

6 Objective 2: Best Management Practices
Your school must demonstrate how the school maintained action in at least 4 of the 7 areas: Water Conservation and/or Water Pollution Prevention Energy Conservation Solid Waste Reduction Habitat Restoration Building Structures for Learning about the Environment Responsible Transportation Healthy School Environment

7 Objective 2: Best Management Practices
Environmental best management practices (BMPs) are modeled in the operation, design, and maintenance of the school building and grounds - the school models what it teaches. Complete the Excel Spreadsheet data quantification section, Download here:

9 The Application Process
Digital Method – Parts II and III of the application (cover sheet with the principal’s signature, summary, and Top Five) must be submitted as hard copies. Part III & IV may be presented as a PowerPoint presentation, wiki, or website. Include the address of the website or wiki on the Cover Page if applicable. All components must be received together.

Maximum 1-Page Description and Documentation for: Objective 1: Use of environment as a context for learning, Professional Development, Celebration Objective 2: Best Management Practices –Action in at least four of seven areas – data quantification form completed (Included on Excel Spreadsheet). Objective 3: Community Partnerships The Application is Well Organized

12 CHECKLIST FOR A SUCCESSFUL APPLICATION
Each section of the application is identified Supporting documentation, labeled for each criterion, is placed immediately following the written description Documentation that illustrates how your school met each criterion. Documents may include, but are not limited to photographs, student work, data, program or meeting agendas, certificates, specific lesson plans, calendars, maps, blue prints, and newspaper articles. Photos need to be labeled and dated. Documents that quantify environmental results Site maps indicating your activities and their locations on your campus are helpful, but please fold the map and include with the application. The application reflects two years of environmental education in your school: September 2009 through June 2013 Application is mailed or delivered in time to arrive on or before the March 17, 2018 deadline
