NOC Phase 2 – Concern 0655-09 Update Report 27
H1N1 Flu Current: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirms that a Texas woman has died from H1N1 Flu, raising the U.S. death toll to 2. CDC also reports 642 confirmed cases of H1N1 Flu in 41 States with 2 fatalities and 845 probable cases in 42 States and the District of Columbia. The Public Health Agency of Canada reports 165 laboratory confirmed cases with 0 fatalities. Mexico has 822 confirmed cases and 29 fatalities. The World Health Organization (WHO) Pandemic Alert remains at Phase 5. WHO reports 1754 confirmed cases of H1N1 Flu in 21 Countries and 4975 probable cases in 27 Countries. Future Actions: The current 14 confirmed countries that have imposed import restrictions on U.S. pork products are: Azerbaijan, China, Croatia, Ecuador, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Serbia, St. Lucia, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. Local organizers for the Cinco de Mayo Festival in Queens NY have postponed this weekend's event of 850,000 attendees at Flushing Meadows Park. The Cinco de Mayo Festival will be rescheduled in the coming weeks. Other: DOD confirms the Navy has canceled an aid mission to the South Pacific of a San Diego-based ship, and ordered its crew to be treated with anti-viral drugs after a crew member's illness was confirmed as H1N1 Flu.
