Welcome to Sycamore Class
2
Dear Parent/Carer, I would like to welcome you and your child to Sycamore Class. This is a copy of the parent talk which I would normally give in July. I hope it will give you a useful outline of life in our class! I will also send home and place on our website, an outline of my planning for this term based on the topic of ‘Dinosaurs.’ If you have any concerns, questions or require further information, please don’t hesitate to pop in and see me. Yours sincerely, Sally Grady Class Teacher

Homework- in on Fridays and out on Mondays....
The most important thing you can do to help your child at home is to read to and with your child for minutes each day. Homework is linked to the work we do each week and usually includes math, spelling, phonics, handwriting and reading. Complete as little or as much as suits your child and your family life. I will be running a short weekly Homework club on Tuesdays from 3.05 until This is for parents/carers to attend with their children (siblings welcome). This is an opportunity to ask questions about home/ school work and to use our classroom resources to support homework. Just come into the classroom at the end of the day.

Summer Term 2019 Phonics Screening...
Further information about this statutory assessment will be sent nearer the time. Phonicsplay.co.uk is a resource we use in class which has lots of free game for you to play at home.

Our P.E slots this term are Tuesdays and Fridays - but have kits in school all week please…

Forest School will run after the Autumn half term break and will take place on Friday afternoons. Mrs Talbot and I swap classes and Sycamore class will have forest school each week until the end of Summer term Waterproofs are provided so you only need to send your child in warm layers and wellies.

Sanctions and Rewards…
Golden tickets – these are individual rewards. When your child has collected 3, they exchange them for a go in the ‘lucky dip’ box. Champion Table- table groups working together well can earn points. The team with the most points wins a prize. If we get through all of our work - chocolate on a Friday- if your child should not have chocolate , please let me know. Green, yellow, red leaf- a visual behaviour reminder for children- the aim is to keep your photo on the green!

We are a slippers classroom….

Water… Your child will be provided with a labelled water bottle which they can keep in the classroom and refill as they need. Please do not send any other drinks into school.
11
Show and Tell… Children should not bring their own toys etc. into school except on a Friday when we have ‘Show and Tell.’

Plenty of sleep! Transition from reception to year 1 is extremely tiring and there are are lots of changes to school life and the school day. I recommend 7pm!
