2. EPI|LIFESTYLE 2018 Scientific Sessions
This conference covered a vast number of topics including obesity, diabetes, metabolic issues, nutrition, health, and fitness. Many health professionals and researchers attended this conference. The purpose of it was to keep the general public up- to-date on health issues and new preventative methods.
March, 20-23, 7:00AM-7:00PM, and Sheraton New Orleans hotel in New Orleans, LA
This conference was important to my field because it covered topics related to health and fitness. As a student working to get a masters degree in applied exercise physiology, this conference helped me gain experience in a similar field.

3. Insulin Resistance during Pregnancy is Inversely Associated with Gynoid Fat Distribution Postpartum
This conference was by far the highlight of my year and experience at Kennesaw State University. This was the first time I had delivered a presentation and I definitely needed this experience in order to grow as a student. Because of my background in nutrition, I was able to attend this conference and learned a lot from it. I was also the only student representing KSU. I believe this could be a huge stepping stone for more students from KSU to attend this conference.
My professor, Dr. Katherine Ingram, helped me make my poster and guided me through this conference.

4. Insulin Resistance during Pregnancy is Inversely Associated with Gynoid Fat Distribution Postpartum
My poster/topic was on insulin resistance and gynoid fat distribution postpartum.
Basically I discussed how gestational insulin resistance was negatively associated with post-partum thigh fat accumulation.
These suggests that insulin sensitivity may be associated with the ability to store fat in the lower body and should warrant further study of subcutaneous leg fat as a metabolically “healthy” storage depot.

5. Benefit of Travel I was able to network with a few people .
I definitely learned a lot from the discussions, panels and other presentations that I listened to.
I am also hoping to come back to this conference next year with a new poster using data I collected this past semester.

I think more students from Kennesaw State University should attend this conference. It is a great way to represent KSU as a growing research institution.
