Fight the good fight of faith: v11-14 V11: Flee negative lifestyle from v4-10 V11: Follow – Righteousness Godliness Faith Love Patience Meekness V12: Take action – Fight the good fight of faith Lay hold on eternal life V13-14: Paul’s charge to Timothy Before God and Christ Keep this commandment until Christ comes

4 1 Timothy 6:11-21 Doxology: V15-16
Doxology - typically an expression of praise sung (ASV) “ He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone possesses immortality and dwells in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see. To Him be honor and eternal dominion! Amen” Similar to a hymn we sing – “Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise him, all creatures here below; Praise him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen”

Be not high minded Be full of good works Why? Build a good foundation toward eternity Final charge to Timothy: v20-21 Keep that which has been committed to you Avoid vain babblings Avoid (ASV) “opposing arguments of what is falsely called ‘knowledge’” Why? Because others have been involved in these things and are no longer faithful

6 Introduction to 2 Timothy
Audience: Timothy Location of writing: Rome Date of letter: During the persecutions of Nero in A.D. 65/66 Historical Setting: Paul has journeyed confirming the word where he preached Persecutions under Nero are in full swing Paul has been taken prisoner in Rome for a second time Paul stood at his first hearing “alone”. Forsaken. Timing is before winter because Paul asks for this coat Paul indicates they type of death that individuals are facing Purpose: No matter what, do not give up!!!
