YAMMER @ MIT What sparks your interest in this subject? What is the single problem you are spending the most time trying to solve and how? How is that working for you While there are a wide variety of social networks like Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus, any of them can be hardly suited for fulfilling the complex requirements of businesses, particularly due to lack of security measures and privacy options. This is why entrepreneurs and organization managers look for a more secure and personalized service in the form of corporate social networks. Yammer is an enterprise social network which offers business professionals the chance to communicate and share content (e.g. PowerPoint files) securely in the form of a private social network. It can be used not only for communication within an organization but also for communication between certain departments for a more personalized service During the sign up process you will be asked to enter your personal information, the addresses of your co-workers and optionally upload a profile picture. The security and privacy of Yammer is quite commendable as people not only within an organization but a department can securely share files and communicate with each other. This might mean sharing sensitive documents, forecasts, presentations and other types of documentation for better communication and enhanced privacy. Jean Reale Sloan Technology Services

4 A private network for your only @MIT Users
Yammer is a private network. It's limited to people that have your organization’s address so no outsiders can see. It's a closed network.

5 You can stay connected by phone or email
Yammer is not just a website. You can stay connected anyway, anywhere, with notifications and an application for your iPhone.

6 Accessible Anywhere Web Desktop App SharePoint Twitter iPhone
Blackberry Android SMS iPad “Yammer is now available everywhere – desktop, mobile (iPhone, BlackBerry, Android, and Windows Mobile), browser, SMS, twitter and soon to come: iPad.”

7 Yammer is building a community
Share news Send kudos Start a discussion Yammer also helps foster a sense of community. With thousands of anonymous faces working alongside you, sharing some news and project notes or sending some kudos to others with other helps break down the silos. And breaking down silos.

8 Private groups Yammer Groups
Groups are a great way to collaborate with teams. As you can see there are lots of groups on MIT Yammer. Around 200 groups exist today ranging from social to formal working groups.. They can be private - you can see is locked by the icon and requires users enquire you join - or public like IT Community group - which anyone can join and anyone can view. .

9 Public Groups A group has its own page with messages, group information and members lists. This is the open Training group. Here I can start a discussion with other members, and get notifications of updates on the topic. These groups are like mailing lists. They help organize information without it becoming a huge chain.

10 Private Groups This is a private department group. Here I can start a discussion with other co-workers and invite people into the conversation as needed. These groups are like mailing lists. They help organize information without it becoming a huge chain.

11 Collaborate with People outside your network.
Communities “Communities enable collaboration with external partners. Communities facilitate business to business communication with agencies, buyers, suppliers, vendors, investors. They help you ensure all your company touch points know what’s going on with external parties.”

12 Q:“Does anyone know if MIT has a GARTNER account?”
Traditionally, A group It's also great for asking a question that you may not know who to direct to. Traditionally you'd this question around until it found it's owner. Now you can get an answer and not spam people's . This is great for knowledge sharing, there are thousands of experts in different fields.

13 QUICKLY POLL FOR OPINIONS AND FEEDBACK
Polls “Easily set up a poll with your choices of options to gain rapid feedback on a decision you need to make. Polls can help you figure out meeting times, employee preferences, and surface additional recommendations. Polls can help you get broadbrush consensus early on, before you dive deeper.”

14 search But that’s not all. Yammer is also a knowledge base. You can use the search box to search for a particular topic or word. It’s a great way of catching up with what’s going on at DOJ. You can discover valuable information from past, open discussions. You can tap the power of DOJ’s collective mind

15 GET RSVPs AND ADD TO CALENDARS
CREATE EVENTS GET RSVPs AND ADD TO CALENDARS Events “Events let you organize meetings quickly and directly within your MyFeed, the Group Feed, or a Company Feed. People can see who else is attending, and add meeting invites to their own calendars.”
