Students will understand the ideas of the Enlightenment and dissatisfaction with colonial rule led English colonists to write the Declaration of Independence and launch the American Revolution.

John Locke
rejected the aristocratic form of government (England)
Government must come from people and protect common wealth

4. Proclamation of 1763
Prohibiting settlements beyond the Appalachian Mountains.
Colonists who had already settled on these lands were ordered to return east of the mountains.

Colonists had to find or pay for lodging for British soldiers stationed in America……..even though the French and Indian War was over.
