2 Creativity and Innovation Grant 2015
New! Creativity and Innovation Grant 2015 The purpose of this new state-funded two-year competitive funding opportunity is to foster students' creativity and capacity for innovation, critical for success in a 21st century economy. More specifically, this funding opportunity will support the review, design, and implementation of middle and/or high school curricula that promote these essential skills of creativity and innovation while improving students' academic achievement and engagement.

With new grant funding, Georgetown High School will be: Working with Suffolk University to facilitate mentorship Training with Creative Education Foundation for training teachers Developing opportunities for classroom fieldtrips and speakers for students Updating Creativity course lessons and assessments Using new technologies and apps Developing Creativity Showcase for SY 2015

6 What is Creativity? The definition of creativity is subjective. Therefore as a class students will come up with a shared definition so that we are all working with a common understanding. Have students write their own definition of creativity on a sticky note then put it on the wall. Make sure they include their name. Review what students have said. Have students find definitions of creativity, make sure they identify the source - put on sticky notes - put on another wall.  Have students go deeper find different definitions of creativity, make sure they identify source - put on sticky note Have students put one dot/mark on their favorite definition. Keep up the ones with the most dots/marks and remove all others. Continue to vote until there is one generally accepted definition. Create a classroom definition of creativity Then use Tagxedo or Wordle to create word clouds of the definitions.

Divergent and convergent thinking must be balanced. Ask problems as questions. Defer or suspend judgement. Focus on "Yes, and...“ Divergent and convergent thinking must be balanced - Learning ways to identify and balance expanding and contracting thinking, and when to practice them, are keys to creativity. (CEF, 10)
