Independent Reading By yourself,
read chapter three of To Kill A Mockingbird, a novel by Harper Lee. As you read, concentrate on the characters of Maycomb County, Georgia. In small groups you will present evidence on the character that was assigned to the group. Assign in class or as homework

EBC: To Kill A Mockingbird
Join your small groups. You will share your observations about your assigned character. When citing textual evidence, include the page number of your textual evidence. After having read the first three chapters, the students will have working knowledge of the characters in To Kill A Mockingbird. The students will present evidence for the characters. Miss Caroline went to her desk and opened her purse. "Here's a quarter," she said to Walter. "Go and eat downtown today. You can pay me back tomorrow.“ (page 13) The teacher models how to cite textual evidence. The teacher may add other textual evidence on Miss Caroline. (Forming and EBC will be the focus of Activity 4.) For now, the students are to concentrate on the gathering of textual evidence.
