5 Has This Worked? Until now, such operations would have endangered patients because of communications delays. 8 Costs & Value Although tele-surgery is an expensive form of surgery, the cost savings can outweigh the cost outlays in larger markets. Cost savings accrue both to hospitals and patients. Hospitals can save money by using specialists who are off-site, reducing the need for hospitals to staff individuals with all types of expertise full-time. Patients generate savings related to reduced lengths of stays in hospitals. Technology Benefits Impact

9 Limitations Surgeon’s loss of vision and touch
Although tele-surgery has a great number of advantages, it also has its limitations: Surgeon’s loss of vision and touch Resistance of patients and surgeons Potentially prohibitive costs in areas of low-volume Transmission technology

10 Ethics Authorization and Competence Physician-Patient Relationship
Certification requirements for remote doctors currently force them to be licensed in both the patient (local) nation and the remote equipment location. Physician-Patient Relationship Quality, Security, Safety System reliability, physician competence, and patient confidentiality are the responsibility of all parties and cannot be compromised
