A word used in a paragraph or essay that is essential to the meaning of the writing
It is repeated, paraphrased, and replaced by pronouns throughout the writing
They are the words the writing is about

3. Paraphrasing
Replacing key terms with words or groups of words that have the same meaning
Dog = canine = pooches
Miss Lawson = my English teacher
Sullivan High School = where I go to school = SHS

4. Pronoun Replacement Replacing key terms with a pronoun
Miss Lawson = her
John = him
Austin and Zach = them
Miss Lawson’s class = we

5. Repetition Using the key term more than once
Don’t do it really close together
