What is Holiness? Other than… Holiness and God’s Character
“Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look at the earth beneath; for the heavens vanish like smoke, the earth will wear out like a garment, and they who dwell in it will die in like manner, but my salvation will be forever, and my righteousness will never be dismayed.” (Isa 51.6) Holiness and God’s Character “Holiness his innermost and secret essence” -Procksch Holiness and God’s Name Relationship, Mystery, Covenant at Sinai “The people cannot come up to Mount Sinai, for you yourself warned us, saying, ‘Set limits around the mountain and consecrate it.” (Exodus 19.23” The Struggle of Amos and the Holiness of God

How do we know God to be holy?
Obstacles to knowing God’s Holiness “For His invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived ever since the creation of the world…For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their fulish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.” (Rom )

Knowing God's Holiness “Again, it is certain that man never achieves a clear knowledge of himself unless he has first looked upon God’s face, and then descends from contemplating him to scrutinize himself. For we always seem to ourselves righteous and upright and wise and holy- this pride is innate in all of us- unless by clear proofs we stand convinced of our own unrighteousness, foulness, folly and impurity…in broad daylight we either look upon the ground or survey whatever meets our view round about, we seem to ourselves endowed with the strongest and keenest sight; yet when we look up to the sun and gaze straight at it, that power of sight which was particularly strong on earth is at once blunted and confused by great brilliance” (Calvin, Institutes of the Christian Religion, Book I.1.2

Pray that God's name is hallowed for ourselves…
Undoing the damage Sinai Revelation part II “When the centurion and those who were with him, keeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and what took place, they were filled with awe and said, ‘Truly this was the Son of God.” (Matt 27.54)

Praying God's name is hallowed in the world…
“This is prayed for, not as if the name of God were not holy already, but that it may be held holy by men; i.e., that God may become known to them, that they shall reckon nothing more holy, and which they are more afraid of offending.” (Augustine, Our Lord’s Sermon on the Mount) “You are the light of the world….let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” (Matt )

How will we know when our prayer is answered?
“That at the name of Jesus every knee will bow and tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the Glory of God the Father” (Phil 2.10)
