1 The Responsibility Bug
Catch it if you can

2 It was Monday morning and Bernard Bee was already having a tough day
It was Monday morning and Bernard Bee was already having a tough day! He arrived to school 10 minutes late because he missed the bus. “It wasn’t my fault! I couldn’t see the bus from my room and I was busy playing video games” Bernard complained.

3 When Bernard got to the classroom everyone was already working on their morning work. He sat down at his desk and began arranging his pencils. When it was time to turn in morning work he hadn’t done anything. “ I didn’t know what to do” Bernard explained.

4 It was time for the students to give their science project presentations. Bernard’s job was to bring a model of a bee hive. “Hey Bernard, where’s your hive,” Willy Worm asked. “Oops, I forgot it” Bernard claimed.

5 Bernard tried to make a model bee hive out of glue and paper inside his desk, but he ended up just making a big mess. “Ugh, this is the worst day ever!” Bernard cried.

6 Bernard Bee needed a pick-me-up during lunchtime and went to go see the School Counselor, Miss Monarch.

7 “I’m having the worst day ever
“I’m having the worst day ever! The bus left me while I was playing video games, I didn’t finish my morning work because no one told me what to do, and I didn’t bring my science project” Bernard explained. “It does sound like you are having a rough day,” said Miss Monarch, “but I think catching the responsibility bug will turn your day around.”

8 “What’s the responsibility bug. ” Bernard asked
“What’s the responsibility bug?” Bernard asked? “The Responsibility Bug is what helps you stay on top of things and prepares you for success,” said Miss Monarch, “would you like to hear more about it?” “DEFINITELY” Bernard exclaimed!

9 1. Always Know What’s Expected
“The Responsibility Bug does 5 important things to help himself and others. One, he always knows what’s expected. When you didn’t know what you were to do for your morning work what could have helped you to know or find out what was expected of you?” asked Miss Monarch “I could have asked my teacher or my partner, “ said Bernard

10 2. Keep Commitments 2 “The second thing that the responsibility Bug does is keep his commitments. What is something you could have done to have your part of the project here?” asked Miss Monarch. “I could have written it down in my agenda so I would have remembered to do it at home,” said Bernard.

11 3. Do Your Best Work 3 “The third thing the Responsibility Bug always does is put forth his best effort. When you forgot your project and tried to make it at school it ended up being a mess right?” Said Miss Monarch. “Yes” said Bernard “ I was not proud of my work. I want to try harder next time.”

12 4. Never Makes Excuses 4 “The fourth thing the Responsibility Bug does, is he never makes excuses and always takes responsibility for his actions. Are there any actions that you want to take responsibility for today Bernard? “Yes,” Bernard answered, “I missed the bus because I was inside playing video games when I was supposed to be outside waiting for the bus.”

13 5. Fix Mistakes 5 “The fifth thing the Responsibility Bug does is he fixes his mistakes. He knows everyone makes mistakes sometimes and that is ok. Fixing those mistakes is what counts. What do you think you could do to fix your mistake today, “ said Miss Monarch. “I want to ask my teacher if my group can present our project tomorrow so that I can go home and make the best bee hive model ever tonight.” exclaimed Bernard.

14 “Bernard I think you have caught the Responsibility Bug
“Bernard I think you have caught the Responsibility Bug. It sounds like you are ready to take responsibility for your actions and begin to turn your day around, “ said Miss Monarch. “Thank you Miss Monarch I feel better already, “ exclaimed Bernard

I want to make it right – may we please present our presentation tomorrow?” asked Bernard Miss Buszby responded, “that was a very responsible thing to do Bernard.
