1. Using Quotations Within Quotations
When you use someone else's words in your writing, you must place those words in quotation marks.
Sometimes, the writer's original words will already include quotation marks. This can create a quotation within a quotation.
Let's take a look at some examples based on the quote below:

In the sentence above, all of the copied words are in double quotation marks.
The copied words that were originally in double quotation marks are now in single quotation marks.

2. When your quotation does not appear within a larger quotation, use double quotation marks.
Here, we use double quotation marks because the copied words are not inside a larger quotation.
