A distribution where the right half is the mirror image of the left half is said to be symmetrical If the distribution is not symmetrical it is said to be asymmetrical or skewed. Kurtosis measures the amount of peaked-ness of a distribution.
A flatter distribution than the normal distribution is called platy-kurtic.
A more peaked distribution than normal distribution is called leptokurtic.
