Project Proposal In today's high-speed networks, signals are transmitted through fiber optics over several channels or wavelengths, and regenerated by electronic equipment at the nodes. electronic regeneration is expensive and slow. All-Optical Network - signals will be processed entirely in the optical domain and remain on the same channel from source to destination. Several closely inter-related research issues corresponds to future all-optical network architectures: Network topologies Transport mechanisms Routing Transport layer protocol Network management and control We will focus only on Impairment aware light path routing Routing and wavelength assignment (RWA) refers to the problem of finding a route and a wavelength in the network to accommodate transmission of data (calls) between sources and destinations. When a call cannot be accommodated, it is blocked. Hence we have to device RWA with low blocking probability which is an interesting and novel problem in future all-optical networks, which is shown in figure 2. Thus the goal of this research project is to design RWA algorithms that account for QoS and yield low blocking probabilities and high fairness Time Figure 1: Future Internet vision Figure 2: Flowchart of the proposed routing algorithm
