3 What is the measles? Measles is a highly contagious disease caused by a virus The virus specifically attacks the respiratory system. Measles is most fatal in children 5 years of age and younger

4 Signs and Symptoms Fever, cough, runny nose and red watery eyes.
Small red spots in the mouth A rash starting from the hairline spreading down the body Diarrhea or ear infection may occur Serious complications include: pneumonia, encephalitis (where the brain swells), deafness and mental retardation

8 Highly contagious! Measles is spread by contact with droplets from the nose, mouth, or throat of an infected person. Sneezing and coughing can put contaminated droplets into the air. Therefore, it is considered an “airborne” disease Measles is contagious from the 1st or 2nd days BEFORE the first symptoms start and up until 4 days after the appearance of the rash.

10 How can we prevent the measles?
Vaccines: There is a vaccine called the MMR shot. It prevents someone from ever getting the disease Hand washing techniques and cleanliness
