5. Operation Identification
Is a nation-wide program where citizens permanently mark personal property with a unique identifying number, such as a state ID number (NOT YOUR SSN#), as a means of discouraging burglary and theft.

Permits positive identification of lost or stolen items.
Helps victim recover stolen or lost items.
Operation ID when implemented, has shown reductions in burglary and theft.

Mark (engrave) property. Be sure to check manufacture’s warranty.

Report theft immediately

8. Operation Identification
Operation ID requires four things:
Make a list of all valuables. Be as descriptive as possible and keep the list in a safe place.

Engrave drivers license preceded by the prefix TX on all items that can reasonably be done. Place engraving where it cannot be removed or altered.

16. Recommendations
Provide citizen with an "Inventory Record" sheet that they can use to list the serial numbers of their property.
Remind them to put the inventory list in a safe place.
If they are burglarized, the list can be provided to law enforcement to aid in recovery.

Make a list of all of valuables. Make several copies and store them in two or more secure locations, such as a fire-proof safe in your home or safe/vault at your local bank and/or at your office.

Year of manufacture
Other identifiers, including any engraving.

22. Foreword
The National Association of Town Watch (NATW) is a nonprofit, crime prevention organization which works in cooperation with thousands of crime watch groups and law enforcement agencies throughout the country. Since 1981, NATW has been dedicated to the development, growth and maintenance of organized crime and drug prevention programs nationwide.

23. Origins & History
National Night Out, “America’s Night Out Against Crime,” was introduced by the association in 1984.
The program was the brainchild of NATW Executive Director Matt A. Peskin.

Is a unique crime/drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) scheduled one evening each year.
