2. Lets talk About Early Statehood
When Texas first become a state many flocked uncontrollably to the great state. This Era was marked predominately by Population Expansion as so many people wanted to come into the state.

3. Texas Annexation
So Texas was an interesting State, It was at times unwanted by the United States because
Texas and Mexico being at War would ultimately make Mexico and the United states goto war..
Biggest fear: Annexation would likely start a war between the United States & Mexico
What does Annexation even mean? Annexation is the act of Joining a Territory to an existing one. When you think Annexation, Think Added!!! Many Texans favored Annexation because it would help pay off debts owed to the republic.

4. The Mexican American War
So the Mexican American War was an interesting event. It occurred because of a boundry dispute. You see Mexico insisted that the Nueces River was the border between Texas and Mexico while America Disagreed. Remember American had just gained it’s newest and greatest friend Texas and there was great debate about what territory belonged to who. In fact As a result of the Mexican American War, The southern Boundary of Texas was Designated as the Rio Grande.

5. The Potato Famine
Many Immigrants came to Texas from Europe. The Main reason that they came to Texas was because of the Potato Famine. Remember John Green’s video about Famine. The problem is that Europeans only planted one type of Potato and had no access to other types of grains, as a result when a bacteria got in the soil it killed almost all the potato’s in the land forcing starvation and ultimately immigration to the United States. Most Europeans settled in The coastal plains.

6. Voting Patters & Manifest Destiny
So James K. Polk was a big fan of annexation into the United States, He ultimately believed in something called Manifest Destiny, which was The belief by Americans that the United States was destined to expand from coast to coast. This belief left him no choice other than claiming Texas as part of the Union, He even spoke about it in his Inaugural address. Ultimately however most Voting Patterns were influenced Slavery. Many In the North-East United States did NOT want the expansion of slavery. So let’s make it simply Voting Patterns were influenced by Slavery.

7. The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo
The ultimate outcome of this Treaty was good, The United States and Mexico ended their conflict. The treaty added an additional 525,000 square miles to United States territory, including the land that makes up all or parts of present-day Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming.

8. Compromise of 1850
New Borders were established for Texas. The Compromise of 1850 was a package of five separate bills passed by the United States Congress in September 1850, which defused a four-year political confrontation between slave and free states regarding the status of territories acquired during the Mexican–American War. The compromise meant that both parties had to benefit right? Here is how to South was sold on the deal. The Fugitive Slave Act – It was part of the compromise requiring any federal official who did not arrest a runaway slave liable to pay a fine. Remember slaves in the south would run away to the north, This stopped that ultimately Benefiting the South.

9. Galveston
Not only was Galveston a beautiful scenic beach but it was the site of a major Civil War battle; However that is not currently important. What is important right now is that Galveston is a Major Port for the Early State of Texas.

10. Slavery in Texas
As we have spoken about previously slavery was a huge issue that influenced voting patterns and ultimately led to the Civil War. However In Texas most of the Slave Holders were located in South and East Texas.
